PAVA: excellent performance despite economic recession
Russia's major flour miller keeps well afloat in the difficult environment, extending product range and advancing new projects

BARNAUL, RUSSIA, January 17, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- PAVA OJSC, one of Russian largest grain processors has risen to the challenge of the crisis environment and retained strong positions on the domestic market, while looking at various opportunities to expand its business overseas.

The company's response to the tight competition and wheat market fluctuations is low level of production cost and commitment to innovation.

New wheat flour products are developed, including the company's latest innovation, protein-enriched vitaminised flour. It has exceptional nutritious qualities being rich in natural proteins (14.5%), fibre, complex sugars, vitamin B group, and various mineral substances. These contribute to high preventive efficacy in atherosclerosis, heart disease and cancer; improve digestion. The samples distributed to PAVA's partners were given very positive reception and the company has already started shipping larger consignments for export.

The unsteady situation on the world financial markets did not affect PAVA's overseas sales which experienced positive dynamics throughout the year. 8-month export shipments already neared the last year total, and by the end of 2008 export sales increased by 77% on the year.

Favourable price situation on the flour market was reflected in increased operational results while production efficiency allowed to grow the bottom line. Notably, the credit leverage was reduced, as PAVA adheres to sound principles of financial policy - an important concern in present-day circumstances.

PAVA's ambitious strategy of paving the way to higher-margin production backed by independent feedstock supplies appears virtually risk-proven since the dangerous impact of crop price volatility is minimized. The company is making rapid progress in advancing new projects, while the talks with potential investors are under way.
