Al Harrison Company, the Undisputed 'Watermelon King,' Discusses New Produce Innovations

SAN DIEGO, CA, November 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Al Harrison Company story is as juicy as they come. A long time ago in Southern California, brothers Al and Bob Harrison started a wholesale produce operation called the Harrison Brothers.

Since that time, Al Harrison Company reinforced its produce industry-leading position by perfecting melon and hard squash production and packaging, established an internal transportation department and added to the product line.

"We have 20-plus years of experiences with many growers, building great relationships and implementing bigger programs," said third-generation Brent Harrison, President. "We are adding growers left and right. We look at their operations and see what they offer us and what we can offer them."

Al Harrison bought out his brother and laid the foundation for what the Company is today. He built the Al Harrison Produce Co. Distributor Inc. facility and quickly captured nearly 90% of the watermelon market in the 1970s. For his efforts, Harrison's colleagues started referring to him as "The Watermelon King," which the Company is often referenced as to this day.
