China Refuses US Corn Shipment over GM 'Element'
China has refused entry to a cargo of U.S. corn which it says contains traces of a genetically modified organism.

November 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- China has refused entry to a cargo of U.S. corn which it says contains traces of a genetically modified organism.

The action comes after China booked the largest volume of U.S. corn in a decade.

In a statement, the Agricultural Ministry said, "A genetically-modified element which is not approved by the Agriculture Ministry has been identified in the cargo and according to the relevant State Council regulation, the cargo will be returned."

Feed mills were not permitted to accept the cargo after it was distributed from the port of Chiwan. The cargo apparently was resold to other nations.
