Vickie L. Race Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Agriculture and Landscaping
Vickie L. Race incorporates sustainable agriculture and horticulture in her farming and landscaping businesses
BLAIRSTOWN, NJ, April 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Vickie L. Race, Founder and Designer of Vickie Race's Landscape Designing & Services and Owner of Willow Bog Farm, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in agriculture and landscaping.
A diversified and resourceful entrepreneur, Vickie L. Race has parlayed the knowledge that she acquired as a farmer into a second career in landscaping. She has since become the proprietor of two complementary businesses: Willow Bog Farm, a producer of certified organic meat goats, and Vicki Race's Landscape Designing & Services. As a landscaper, Ms. Race performs detail-oriented custom landscaping and theme gardening for her clients, always imbuing her passion for design with a thorough knowledge of horticulture.
Noted for her expertise in perennials, organic farming and sustainable agriculture and horticulture, Ms. Race practices organic gardening of fruit, vegetables and herbs. Adherent to the mantra, "Be a doer, not a taker," in 1990 she established Vickie Race's "Farm Fresh" Bakery as a means of utilizing grade out produce and reducing waste. She rapidly acquired a reputation for selling baked goods made only with fresh fruit and without preservatives or additives. With the aim of contributing to her community, Ms. Race also tries to minimize waste by utilizing leftover bedding plants - otherwise considered lost products - in her landscaping business. She attributes her success to her professors, Jan-Marie Traynor and Craig Tolley, who inspired her to expand into sustainable and organic agriculture and horticulture.
In addition to her farming and landscaping work, Ms. Race is a full-time emergency medical technician for Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. She also volunteers as an EMT, paramedic assistant, and search and rescue coordinator for Warren County. She is a SAR Tech II and a certified rescue dog handler through Search and Rescue Teams of Warren County, of which she is a co-founder.
A product of the County College of Morris, Ms. Race holds certifications in landscape design, garden center management, and landscape contracting. She also earned an associate in applied science in landscape design and management, and is a certified ground maintenance professional and a certified organic farmer through the United States Department of Agriculture. She was honored with scholarships from Long Valley Garden Club and PLANET, and maintains active affiliation in the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association and Phi Theta Kappa. Ms. Race takes pride in being one of the first farmers in the state of New Jersey to produce organically-raised goats, and looks forward to exploring this opportunity further in the coming years.
